Sample pages from my unpublished graphic novel, “The Lights on the Hill.”
15-year-old Amanda and her single mother have just moved to a new town, for no reason that Amanda can discern. There’s nothing to attract anyone to the small, isolated, and rundown town, and it isn’t as if her mother has a job to bring them here, or family nearby, or anything else that would explain turning their lives upside down to relocate. Amanda has a bad feeling about the place, and as she explores, her uneasiness only grows. Where are all the young people? Why does it seem like half the people she meets are disfigured, or crazy, or both? And what are the brilliant white lights that appear every night on the steep, inaccessible hills above town?
